NOVATO AGE FRIENDLY IS…

All generations grow up and help Novato thrive: Marisa Remak’s family:   “My parents, Josephine and Zabaz Rosales moved to Novato in 1971. My sister (DOB 1973) and I (1976) were both raised in Novato, attended Rancho, Sinaloa, and San Marin.  After I was born, my grandfather, Gelasio Pagsinohin, moved in with us to help raise my sister and me, as my parents were preparing to start a construction business. My parents opened Cal-Custom Construction in Novato in 1977 and ran the company until retiring in 2010.  Through Cal-Custom, they were members of the Novato Chamber of Commerce.  In their spare time, they were avid water skiers and belonged to Water Skiers of Marin, based in Novato at that time. My grandfather lived with us until his death in 2000.

From 2004-2005, I served as the charter president of the Novato Rotaract Club and District Rotaract Representative. I joined the Rotary Club of Novato in 2011 and have served on the Local Community Service, World Community Service, and Public Relations committees.  My participation in Rotary is possible only with the help of my parents.  My toddler, Sadie, spends Friday afternoons with Nana and Papa while I attend my Rotary luncheon meeting.

My older children, Ashby and Ryan, often accompany me on Rotary projects. Now 13 and 10, they have been “Junior Rotarians” since the ages of 7 and 5. They regularly run the art table for our Rotary Books and Art Around Town project. This project brings Rotarians together with Novato’s children to promote reading and art appreciation at local food banks and various Novato community events.  In addition to working with children, Rotary offers them opportunities to enjoy the company of older generations, as well.  While I attend Rotary committee meetings at Nova-Ro III, Ashby and Ryan often visit with residents in the lounge.”
